「神仙谷」,泰雅族語稱「Kin bow Nay」,舊名「死亡谷」(註1), 是一處極為險峻的溪谷,因地層落差斷層而形成瀑布。 這處溪谷正位於鹿湖溪及風美溪的匯流處,巨大的砂岩形成的河床,又遇斷層陷落,因而形成階層疊狀的雙瀑布, 流水順著岩床奔瀉而下,轟隆隆的瀑流沖入下方的水潭。

巨大的岩塊,橫亙於河床,左右兩條河流形成兩大瀑布,上下左右錯落著大大小小岩塊,流水通過岩縫而形成細線狀的小瀑, 構成一幅大小無數瀑布交織的美景。若是大雨滂沱時候,大小瀑布合流,則應可形成簾幕狀的瀑布, 景觀或可類似於有「台灣尼加拉瀑布」之稱的平溪十分瀑布。

神仙谷,溪谷及瀑布的景觀壯麗優美,又如此容易親近,自然可吸引遊客前來。而原本溪谷地勢險峻,河水湍急,易發生危險, 「參山國家風景區」規劃整理後,設置架高的棧道、涼亭及吊橋,遊客可以輕鬆走至吊橋,從溪谷高空俯瞰神仙谷雙瀑的美景。

神仙谷的由來:

過去遊客到神仙谷,可以輕易下到溪床,溪床大石濕滑,多次發生遊人失足落水,甚至摔落谷中死傷的意外事故。加上當地早年是泰雅族原住民的墳場,更添幾分神秘可怖,當地泰雅族原住民稱為「死亡谷」。參山國家風景區管理處5年前列為危險區域予以封閉,改善安全設施後改名為「神仙谷」。

2007年?管處再整修步道,並興建150公尺長的神仙谷吊橋,連接對岸的石門步道,吊橋兩端都有寬敞的觀景台,橋頭以泰雅傳統圖騰為裝飾,由橋上眺覽,上游是寬闊的神仙谷,下游溪谷碧綠深遂,景觀各有勝場。
