    Get x's on one side.

    7x + 2 - 4x > 4x - 4 - 4x

    3x + 2 > - 4

Isolate the 3x on the left side.

    3x + 2 - 2 > -4 -2

    3x > - 6

    Get x alone.

    3x / 3 > -6 / 3

    x > -2

When working with inequalities, treat the inequality sign as you would and equal sign except, when multiplying or dividing both sides by a negative number, reverse the inequality sign.

    7x + 2 > 4x - 4

    7x - 4x > - 4 - 2

    3x > - 6

    x > - 6 / 3

    x > - 2
