Some of the most widespread (and most Latvian, because Latvians have also adapted surnames from Swedes, Germans, Russians, Poles etc.):
Ozols, Ozoliņš, Bērziņš, Priede, Priedītis, Balodis, Vilks, Kalniņš etc.
Some surnames with Pole/Russian influence: Dombrovskis, Lukovs, Loskutovs. (can be recognized by -skis, ovs etc).
Swede/German: Kaufmanis, Zembergs, Jansons, Johansons, (can be regognized by -bergs, -sons, manis) etc.
@Joyce B, you won't find surnames even remotely similar to these in today's Latvia.
@Johnny, I'd say not all, but at least 99% for sure, and of course this is for males. Women have either a or e at the end of their surname normally.
