Heat radiator filling room with steam. Help!?
All the radiators in our house are working except the one in our bedroom. After 5 mins of being turned on the room fills up with steam. It looks like you are in a sauna. The walls, TV, bookcase, all mirrors are extremely wet and covered with moisture. We have woken up a few times unable to breath and we have a newborn baby. The landlord is very hands off and doesnt seem to care. What is going on with our radiator? We just leave it completely off now and living in NY, it's freezing. angry angry !!

Steam escapes because of an opening somewhere. Check at least for yourself, either the radiator has a leak or the air vent is faulty (about a $15.00 part). If there's a cover, remove that.Steam leaks are easy to find, it may be a loose threaded connection at the valve or packing nut needs a snugging down. If you can see where the steam starts leaking, take a good pic & email to me, i'll help advise you & how to deal with the landlord.

Get a real estate law book and learn about tenants rights in your state. You may have the right to have the repairs done and deduct them from the rent after giving a written notice and a reasonable ammount of time for him to get the repairs done. Give him notice by registered mail where he has to sign, by hand and by regular mail.
