Number 1: for American Companies to live with a little less short term profit (an much less long term risk) by keeping their manufacturing operations on shore.

Number 2: Advanced manufacturing investment that increases automation. This is a 2-edged sword, but are you better off with 50 people working in a highly automated plant that use to employ 300 or all 350 out of work?

Number 3: Stop American companies with overseas manufacturing and development operations from shielding those profits from US taxes. This is a 2-edged sword as well. Currently those profits are not shielded if they bring the money back - so the money stays (and is invested) overseas. But if none of those profits were shielded then the incentive to keep the money out of the country is lost. The alternative is continued tax breaks with little to no domestic benefits.

Number 4: Better immigration policy. Some of our manufacturing industries (particularly factory farms) are starved for a stable work force. We need to allow enough immigration to serve the industries with operations here.

Number 5: Better trade policy. Check out the Gibson Guitar Company's problems with illegal trade practices. Clearly they are a flagrant, serial violator of the law. But the law makes little sense and complying with the law could do grave harm to their viability (well not really they can charge whatever they want for their products - the people that want them will pay). But the point is trade policy should never get in the way of sustaining US manufacturing. At the same time, it should never protect it with outright protectionism unless as a defense from foreign protectionist policies.

Number 6: Invest in our future. It is pointless to compete on low wage workforce manufacturing with the developing world. But Toyota and BMW build some of their vehicles here in the USA. The world comes to us for precision manufacturing and the services required to support that. We need to step up STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education to insure that continues and grows.

Eliminate Corporate income taxes (pay roll taxes and taxes on dividends / capital gains would still exist).

Extremely low interest loans provided or even subsidized by the Government for new manufacturing facilities built in the U.S. (almost every other Nation does this).

Federal, State & Local Governments providing land (low cost rent etc.), ease of acquiring "permits" and a reduction in regulation for those building manufacturing plants in the U.S.

The reality is that the U.S. is not very business friendly compared to China and many other countries (has little to do with worker costs). I read an article by an IBM exec which stated a plant built in the U.S. would cost $1 billion more than it does in China (and provinces in China FIGHT tooth and nail to get a Corporation to build there, a long with China providing low interest loans, land etc).

    1. Negate all free trade agreements when/if the other party is found in violation.

    2. Close U.S. markets to former U.S. companies that offshore their tax base and/or jobs.

    3. Increase penalties on U.S. employers that hire illegally.

    4. Do whatever it takes to end Chinese currency manipulation.

    1. End over regulation and taxation on business.

    2. Allow for free market to rebuild America the way it did when it was created.

    3. Get rid of the socialist take over of our government.
