ph, Liming, and CEC questions for a Soils class?

which method for determining pH would you use if your overall goal was to make a liming recommendation and why?

what is an easy way to increase the CEC of the soil without liming?

i would use 1:1 soil:water to test pH in that case...a 2:1 salt (like CaCl):soil would lower the reading slightly and mimic more natural conditions to help with a liming recommendation as well.

to increase the cec you should add materials with a naturally high cec like smectitic/vermiculite clays, or organic matter
