Canon camera vs. Nikon camera?

I'm trying to figure out what camera to buy. I don't know to look at a Canon Camera or a Nikon Camera? I am starting to take photography so I want to be taking pictures of almost about everything. I remember seeing this camera I really wanted and it was small but very good. I don't remember if it was from Canon or not but I want a small portable camera I will be able to carry around and bring everywhere. ANY advice?!

Well it depends on what you want to use it for and whether you want a dSLR or just a simple point and shoot. I personally like Canon more than Nikon, just because i have had more experience with Canons but that doesn't make Nikon a bad brand. Both are equal, it depends on personal preference. I'll suggest two cameras, one is a point and shoot and the other is a dSLR. Choose the one that fits the bill. The dSLR i would really suggest you get is the Canon T2i, i own it and i absolutely love it. Here's a review to it which perfectly describes how it works:

    http://www.amazon.com/review/R1VRLBMZAAZTBU/ref=cm...

Read its specs and price etc here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-T2i-Digital-3-0-Inch-1...

The p&s i would suggest is Canon PowerShot S95. It has 10.0-megapixel sensor combined with the DIGIC 4 Image Processor, captures 720p HD video in stereo sound, f/2.0 lens for low light conditions or shallow depth-of-field; control ring for intuitive manual control, 3.8x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens and Canon's Hybrid IS to compensate for angular and shift camera shake. Here's a link where you can look for price details and buy it:

If you really seriously want to pursue for photography than surely go for the dSLR, its a great investment but if you just want camera to carry around and take random pictures then the p&s would be your best option because with the dSLR you will have to give it time and spend money on it (for lenses etc) to learn about it and learn about photography. Best of luck.

Neither is better. They both have strong points and weak points. For example, some Nikon DSLRs are better in low-light/high ISO situations than similar Canon DSLRs. But Canon lenses are cheaper... etc etc A price range would be helpful. Do you want a DSLR or a Point and Shoot? Check out the Powershot SX40 and The Coolpix L120. If you want a DSLR, check out the Rebel T3 and Nikon D3100. But before spending $400+ on a camera, go to your local library and read a few of the basic photography books they have.

I have read many reviews and it seems like Canon and Nikon are pretty even when it comes to their higher end cameras. When it comes to point and shoot cameras, Canon seems to be the slightly preferred brand. That being said, you can't go wrong with either brand. They both make high quality cameras. You might want to go to the store and see how they both feel and operate in your hand.

Anyone you ask who uses Nikon equipment will tell you to buy a Nikon, and anyone you ask who uses Canon equipment will tell you to buy a Canon. It's the biggest rivalry in photography, just like Harvard vs MIT, England vs Ireland, Apple vs Microsoft.

Buy whichever one you like most. Both companies make great cameras.

These companies make probably more cameras and lenses than all the other brands put together, so you can't go far wrong with either.
