If American health care system is so good, why does Cuba have a high life expectancy than the US?

Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the US. Just saying.

I thought Cuban hospitals were crappy.

Update:

Thank you Shane for the offer.

  • American Hospitals are may be better than Cuban Hospitals. (Not only Cuba there are many other Asian, American countries too) But for the health of a particular citizen his/her own personal life style also matters. In Cuba or in some other countries most of the areas are yet to be polluted. They have nutritious food, clean air, crystal water, etc.

So what do we call that? "Cuba's life expectancy is higher than USA because Cuba does the prevention rather than the treatment"

Cuba spends most of its money on health and education. They actually even export their doctors to countries in South America who need them as they have done for Venezuela. Higher literacy rates give more people opportunities to become doctors and as Cubans are not primarily motivated by profit, doctors do not charge outrageous fees. They have been hindered a lot by the stupid 50 year old trade embargo so they do not have access to technology that would make them even better in achievements in health. All of this can be verified by searching for the FACTS on Google. This is a good question

They are a small island. I dont see how you could compare a small island to an advanced complex country of 308 million. They have no jobs and if they dont work, they dont have stress. Maybe that's why they live longer.

The doctors are excellent. The University is excellent. Because of the trade embargo, they cannot buy modern equipment and supplies, therefore the quality overall is inferior.

Because the castro brothers sit down and make up the data/statistics for cuba.

Did you also know that cuba has a higher income per capita?

They also won more olympic gold medals in each of the games since 1960.

you are confounding the quality of the medical care with other variables when you discuss life expectancy.

if we confined you into a small room, kept you away from all other people and all bad habits, controlled your diet carefully, etc. you'd probably have a high life expectancy but your life wouldn't be worth living.

go out and live a bit -- it's actually fun
