Can a Sunni pray jama'a if the person leading prayer is Shia?

Salam

So in my work they often leave a room for us Muslims to pray. But the problem is, a guy leads the prayer and he's Shia. I was wondering if it's haram to pray with them because since the guy leading prayer is Shia then it's haram because he's praising Ali more the Mohammed (PBUH) during tashahoud and the prayer .

*"Jama'a" means in a group/together.

Update:

Can you provide me hadith or details or something?

Update 2:

@ Spider: Yess....i just realised that! Lol, but is this right or not???

They say Ya Ali Madad and that is an act of Shirk.

You cannot offer Salah behind anyone whose acts amount to Shirk in any way.

    Read those......

'Should he pray behind someone whose ‘aqeedah is not known, whether there are Sufis and Shi’as in the country?'

    http://islamqa.com/en/ref/72441

    'Praying behind a sufi imam'

'Praying behind followers of bid’ah, whether that bid’ah amounts to kufr or not'

@Questioner - Do STOP your other Sunni colleagues from offering Salah behind a Shirk doer. You will be rewarded Insha'Allah. Show them those fatwas so that they may get the understanding of the issue.

Look at the blessing of Allah (SWT) upon us that the Imams of the Masjid al Haram are not the SHIRK DOERS! And they are proper Muslims! had they been some Shirk doers, imagine that....we would have had to offer Salah behind the Shirk doers which is actually a HARAM act!

This itself is a PROOF that Shia people are not on the right path!

    Get my point?

Wa alaikum salasm A Sunni could not pray in jama'a if the person leading the prayer as an imam is Shia because Shia is a misled islamic sect.while Sunni is a true and right islamic sect based on the Qur'an and hadith

well after reading the answers above me.. yes people have good arguments..

    but having said this..

a shia is still a muslim.. he/she believes in Allah as the one God and Mohammed as the last messenger.. this is the foundation of Islam

I think if a person is a shia, and they lead a prayer, if they dont deviate out of the normal proceedings of the prayer, dont add anything else like shia sayings.. but just lead a straight forward prayer, then why couldnt any other muslim pray alongside or behind them.. ..

im not a shia, nor do I say sunni... I dont want to be labelled in a sect, but if any muslim follows the proper prayer guidelines, why cant any other muslim pray with them..

    Nope,

    Your pray is invaid,

    Edit:

scholars are agreement when it comes to this-shias are misguided and you can not let them led you in prayer,

    Here is a famous hadith,

    Hadith - Reported by an-Nasaa'ee (3/188).

"… The most truthful speech is the Book of Allaah. The best way is the way of Muhammad. The worst of affairs are the novelties and every novelty is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in the Fire." [Saheeh according to Sheikh al-Albaanee in Saheeh Sunan in-Nasaa'ee (no. 1487)]

    Quran 6:159 translation

Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects [shiyya(n)] - you, are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

    Quran 3:103 translation

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided.

No a Muslim (Sunni) should only pray behind a Muslim. You can't pray behind a Shia.

No they do not consider semen as a reason for wash or wudu

    Their wudu is also different

So at minimum you are not sure of purity

Take your precaution and then leave it to god in him trust and depend

    This is my personal opinion.

It depends on their sect. Shia 12vers and Zaidis are OK. I will not pray behind Alawis or Ismaili sects, neither will I pray behind certain Sufi branches

There are no Verses or Hadiths. The verdict depends on whether you believe their faith falls within boundaries of tawheed
