I'm no scientist but my kid went over this in school recently. Noise pollution is that roaring hum you hear when you stand outside in some big cities, like New York or LA. It's caused by lots of cars and trucks, airplanes coming and going all day, construction work equipment and those loud things that are more common in a bigger city. As opposed to standing in a cornfield in Nebraska where you might hear a bird tweet because there is no noise pollution there.
