    1. An octahedron has 8 faces, which means that to find the surface are of each face, you divide 48 by 8 to get 6 square inches per face.

    2. You have a number abcd.

    From the information given, you know that:

    Digit b must be less than 5

    c must be less than 4.

    a must be an even number, and must be 4.

    d must be less than 4

    thus, the number is 4082

    3. 30cm * 1000000 = 30000000cm

    --------------------> = 300000m

    --------------------> = 300km

    4.Amy,Betty,David,and Ed have the last names of Gonzales, Jackson,Keller, and Perez, though not in that order. They recently participated in a 1500-meter race and they all finished the race in a different position. From the clues below math the first and last names and determine in what order they finished the race.

    Clues:

    a) From this, you know that the person with the last name Jackson, is a girl. Thus Jackson could be Amy or Betty. We also know that Jackson didn't come 1st.

    b) From this, you know that neither Ed, nor Betty, have the last name Perez. You also know that Ed could have finished 2nd or 3rd.

    c) From this, you know that Amy's last name is not Gonzales.

    d) As we found before, Ed could have finished 2nd or 3rd, but we now know that Ed can't have finished 3rd, thus he finished 2nd.

    From previous clues, we also know that Ed finished behind Betty. Now, because David didn't finish 3rd, and we only have 3rd and 4th left, we know that David finished 4th. Thus Amy finished 3rd. From the 3rd clue, we know that Amy finished directly behind Gonzales, which means that Ed's last name is Gonzales.

    As we know from the first clue, the girl with the last name Jackson didn't finish 1st, i.e. Jackson is Amy's last name. From the second clue, we know that Ed finished ahead of the person with the last name Perez. We know now that David's last name is Perez, thus Betty's last name must be Keller

    1st. Betty Keller

    2nd. Ed Gonzales

    3rd. Amy Jackson

    4th. David Perez

    5. If we want the greatest number of people, we need the highes number over 70000 which can be rounded to 70000. We don't know how much the newspaper rounded down, but we can assume that it can be much greater than 70000. From this, we can work out the the number could have been 74999, which can be rounded down to the nearest 10000th to give 70000

    6. I think I could work this out, but it would be much easier with diagrams. Sorry :(

    I hope this helped :)

    Turning them into a decimal is easy. Just move the decimal to two places. So 82% will become 0.82 and 137% will be 1.37. For fractions, divide all the percentages by 100 and then simplify. So 82% becomes 82/100 = 41/50 and 137% becomes 137/100.
