This is a good thing. Breastfeeding helps your uterus contract which causes it to shrink back down to its normal size. It almost feels like period cramps. When your uterus is shrunk back to its normal size, the cramping while breastfeeding will stop. It is very normal.

It's normal. Just as nipple stimulation can cause uterine contractions during late pregnancy, it continues to cause contractions after baby is born. While sometimes uncomfortable (especially if this is a second or subsequent baby), it's a GOOD thing -- it helps your uterus to return to pre-pregnancy size.
