Fior not depressing books, I recommend Meg Cabot. Her books are very amusing, especially the Princess Diaries series. Her 'Missing' series is also very good, and of her one-off books I particularly enjoyed Teen Idol.
Ally Carter is another good author whose books are not depressing. Her Gallagher girls series, about a school for girl spies, is very exciting and fun too. The first one is called I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. And Heist Society is also very good.
Eoin Colfer is a good fantasy writer, his Artemis Fowl series is very entertaining.
If you don't mind reading something a bit old fashioned, I recommend Daddy Long legs by Jean Webster, which was one of my favourite books when I was your age. It is about a poor orphan girl who is sent to college by a rich anonymous benefactor, the book is in the form of her letters to him telling him about her college life. It was published in 1912, but is still fresh and funny and touching.
Another book I loved at your age is A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley, about a girl who slips back in time to the Elizabethn age and gets involved in a plot to rescue Mary, Queen of Scots, from captivity. Although it is touched with sadness it is not a depressing book and is a beautiful story.

I also love Artemis Fowl...
Oh! And The DaVinci Code
I might also suggest the Warriors series, but it goes on FOREVER. Eventually I just stopped reading them, it got worse than Lost. :P
Yeah, so those top three.Source(s): I'm fourteen as well.
