I had a slightly less problematic problem with computers that my wife used and whenever you search for something in google, it comes up in a search, but when you click on it, it redirects you to a different search parameter/results engine.
Eventually, that computer fell victim to another slow moving virus which removed all the .exe files making all the programs normally used unusable, each time it would ask you which program you'd like to use to open that program, then it would stop opening up and all I would get is a black screen with the following white text saying something about missing dll's in kernel.
I had to reload the operating software and before I did, I had to reformat the drive erasing all stored information, because if I didn't, I'd have the same problem I had with another computer I tried to restore to an earlier time, once the files are corrupted, you have to erase all evidence or the system will crash again.
Since I reloaded the program, (which) I had to purchase separately because only 2 out of 4 computers came new and without backup OPS software, I've had no trouble with those computers except there are some games I can't play anymore because using a 2003-4 load of XP from a dell recovery disc, something even with MS updates, is preventing the games from running at normal speed, the speed is so reduced that it's impossible to play bombermania on those computers.
Since the virus you mentioned sounds even worse that the one my wife unknowingly loaded onto two different computers, my only suggestion is to erase all your info, hopefully you kept all your important info on a separate external HD so you won't lose anything vital when it becomes necessary to reformat your hard-drive and reload your op system.
