Who is the nicest famous communist?
My mate Dave and I were talking about communists and we couldn't think of any nice ones.

The fact that he was ostracised by the Leninist faction, forced into exile, and eventually murdered in 1940 by the Stalin regime should tell us a lot about his differences from those two extremely violent communists.
As early as 1905, he propounded a theory of socialism that brought the middle and working classes together in a revolution to make the former more socially responsible and the latter more culturally aware. For Trotsky, social, community and national development was about involving everyone. He was against the show trials, mass imprisonments and murders and the exiles of the bourgeoisie.
Only now, 70 years after his murder, is it becoming clear that Trotsky was a man of intellect and principle, with a strong sense of humanity and social purpose.
By the way, be careful if you read any books on the subject written by Robert Service, who seems determined to show that Trotsky deserved to die; no matter how horribly and at whose hands.Source(s): David North "In Defense of Leon Trotsky" Mehring Books (2011) Helen Gilbert "Leon Trotsky: His Life and Ideas" Red Letter Press (2003) http://www.internationalviewpoint.org/article.php3...

Yes, plenty. Whole graveyards full of them.
To paraphrase general Sherman: The only good communists I ever saw were dead.
The problem with 'nice' communists is that most often they have been murdered by their compatriots before they had the chance to do better than Lenin, Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot. If you're exiled (like Trotsky) it isn't so difficult to be passionated, understanding and merciful.
Exactly the same goes for 'nice' communists in western democracies. You can't send your opponents to a camp in a democracy. That's not something that makes those communists 'nice', it is something that makes democracy nice.

Jesus - he shared his wealth and possessions with others, healed the sick and fed the poor without reward and preached that it was harder for a rich man to get into heaven than it was to pass through the eye of a needle.
