    Slovakia was apart of the ‘Kingdom of Hungary’ from 1000 AD to 1919 AD. Slovakia separated from Hungary after World War I.

    The Bratislava airport is named after general Milan Rastislav Štefánik, whose aircraft crashed near Bratislava in 1919. Ironicly, there is also a Stefanik Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio.

    It used to be the eastern half of Czechoslovakia. Before that it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
