Is it safe to have our gadgets inside our luggage?

It's been awhile since I travel. And I will be travelling to NJ from Los Angeles and I have some questions. Is it safe to have my laptop inside my luggage? I don't plan on carrying anything with me on board. Just maybe my ipod touch. No bags or anything. Just one luggage that I will check in. Do I...

Do NOT leave your gadgets in your checked bags. Airlines specifically state to keep all valuables with you on board.

You get 2 bags. One goes in the overhead bin, the other under the seat (needs to be a bag small enough to do so).

Always take valuable electronics in your carry on bag. Every US airline allows a carry on size suitcase, and a "personal" item. The larger of the two goes in the overhead bin; the small one goes under the seat in front of you. A 17" laptop may have trouble fitting into a bag, but you should try to find something to hold both that and the iPad.

See the airline's web site for specifics about size and weight limitations for carry ons. You will have no problem at all with two items. I typically take a carry on size bag, and a backpack with my laptop in it.

When you get to the security check point, you will need to take the iPad and laptop out of your bag and put them into the plastic bins before you send the through the x-ray machine.

I Believe You Should Have Them With You Because the risk of it getting crushed is a problem. The workers that place luggage do not do it in a well matter. That's why I think you should take them.

If you put your laptop and ipad in your checked baggage you can count on them being stolen. Do you not realize that, theoretically, every piece of baggage is x-rayed? This is to check for bombs etc, it also makes it easy for the airport thieves to decide which luggage to steal. Every airline in the world tells you to NOT put anything valuable in your checked baggage.

Do NOT put ANYTHING valuable in your checked luggage if you want to see them again at your destination - even if the risk for theft is low, handlers are not the most gentle with luggage.....

In your luggage should be OK. Most people don't like doing this because of the risk of theft.
