Emotional obligation is like social responsibility. When you get into a relationship, you have to consider the feelings of others and how your behavior affects those feelings. However you are not responsible for how someone else feels as long as your actions or intentions are not intended to hurt someone else. So an emotional obligation would be to not lead someone on who is becoming too attached. As long as you haven't done anything to mis-lead the person, you are not responsible if they ultimately get hurt.
