    Two painting collections:

    One is: 源氏物語 (Author: 林静一, Publisher: 朝日新聞社, 1987/12)).

    The other: 万葉恋詩 (Author: 中島潔, Publisher: 白泉社, 1992/07).

    From MTC (Multi-language Translation Service) team.

    Although it's all in Chinese, the author and publisher are Japanese.

    老畫家老畫集 中島潔與林靜一的和風美人繪卷

    源氏物語 = Tale of Genji, or genji monogatari in Japanese.

    林静一 = 林, a Chinese last name is borrowed into Japanese and became phoneticized as "Hayashi". When other characters are before it, the initial h becomes a b sound in Japanese. Like Kobayashi = Ko + Hayashi, that's why it's written as 小林 in Chinese. 静, shizu = simplified Chinese version of 靜, meaning "quiet; tranquil, etc...", where "一", meaning "one; first" is missing from the phoneticization of the name.

    画集: 画 = simplified Chinese for 畫, meaning "art". 集 means "collection"

    万葉恋詩 = manyoukoiuta. uta = song, but here 詩 means "poem / poetry" in Chinese. 恋詩 used in the Japanese sense means "love poems": 恋 borrowed the simplified Chinese form of 戀. 万葉 = "ten thousand leaves" in Chinese but it's a type of writing style in Japanese. 万 is the simplified Chinese form of 萬.

    中島潔 = Nakajima. 中島, literally means "in the middle of an island" in Chinese. The "sh" of shima in 島 is turned into a j sound when combined with other Kanji. 潔, "Kiyosi" means "pure" in Chinese.

    画 = simplified Chinese from of 畫, meaning a "painting, portrait,etc..."
