what is the difference between wood sealer and waterproofer?

I have a boat dock and i was wondering what the difference in a wood sealer verses a waterproof. I was interested in using bahr waterproof and stain product, but my deck builder said use a sealer.

trust your deck/dock builder he has more experience. Additionally, the products from the big box stores will not last as long as a quality sealer. Take a look at your local paint shop and ask for their advice.
