Financial problems were the single most common reason for the closure of 23 California hospitals between 1995 and 2000..

Emergency room at Kenneth Hall is now closed

In its application to close the hospital, the foundation cited $5.5 million in yearly losses. Services had been reduced to an emergency room and 39 mental health beds.

To control costs and for a host of other reasons there has been a wave of mergers in the healthcare system of hospitals with at least a fighting chance of survival. The last two were Lenox Hill and Long Island College Hospital. The rest are pretty much on their own.

Sadly what we are seeing is the slow death of charity care/last resort hospitals. Providing such care was never an easy task but with insurance companies and federal programs cutting reimbursement rates most of these places are bleeding red ink. Worse for them illegal alien population not insured, and not provided with government funds.Illegals are using the ER for all their medical needs. They know all care will be free, no matter how much it costs, the illegals on their part never make any effort to pay their hospital bills, in doing so they would admit they owe the money. Illegals provide false information, they lie about who they are and where they live. Interesting on the weekends, illegals come in drunk, calling employees racist, families think the nurse is suppose to stop caring for all other patients and focus on the illegal, many, many drunken illegals do threaten to call La Raza, the ACLU, if their demands are not met. The staff knows they are illegal on the hospital admit form, they have limited information, no ss numbers, etc, etc, they make dr's work for free, they bill separate so illegals who demand wages for their work, have no problems not paying the dr for his/her work. When you work in an ER you see this every weekend. Translators alone cost money, hospitals must use Professional Translators, medical privacy laws, mandate this. How many child births have the tax payers had to pay for ? Each birth cost tax payers thousands and illegals do not pay for any child birth. This is why there are more births of hispanics because they do not have to pay for medical care.It is all free of charge. Once you work in a hospital you understand how much money is lost because of illegals.Zero hospitals, that's the best laugh I had this year, zero, right..

It's not just because of illegal immigrants. Who ever comes into a hospital and doesn't have medical insurance a hospital CANNOT turn away a patient. When they treat them and the patients (don't/can't) pay then the hospitals lose money. Also, I heard on a documentary, if someone was burned by a Meth Lab it can cost up to 1 million dollars to treat them. So add all the people up who don't have medical insurance and when they are treated by a hospital, which the patients don't pay. That's how they get bankrupt.

I think they should start reporting them when they're illegal.
