will strength exersizes prevent diabetes?

I'm young i'm 14, and i've been doing sit ups, push ups, Plank (if u guys don't know what plank is it builds muscle for the core) and Squats, will all that help prevent diabetes when I get older or should I start running?

    A proper diet is more important then what kind of exercise you do.
