Can I collect unemployment after being terminated as an independent contractor in Missouri?

I worked 4 years as an independent contractor and was terminated. Can I collect unemployment in Missouri?

    As an independent contractor you were self-employed. If you wanted to be covered by the unemployment system you needed to pay the unemployment insurance premiums - did you? If not, you don't qualify, if you did, it will depend on why you were terminated.

    No, an independent contractor doesn't pay into unemployment and isn't covered for benefits.

    It depends on why you were terminated. Apply anyway and the worst outcome could be you were denied.
