when the cloren that turns light into energyget pulled out of the leaves the leaves loose there green coler and the leaves die the tree goes dorment and they grow back in the spring this also explanes why trees have annual rings because the tree douse not grow in the winter.

The technical term is senessence, it is while the chlorophyll stages drop through fact the solar stages drop in autumn i assume, and the leaf loses the eco-friendly colour. additionally the abscission layer between the top of the leaf stalk and the substantial branch seperate after which the leaf falls.
