Wen was the Secretary of Mr Zhou Tse Yang who was on the side of the students before the 1989 Tianmen killings. A few days before June 4, Zhou and Wen went to persuade the students to leave Tianmen Square as an internal meeting already decided that military actions would be launched against the students regardless. Sadly the students did not listen.
According to some news sources, Wen's call for more democracy has been facing a lot of tough oppositions from within the small group of decision-makers. What CCP elite decision-makers want is just economic boom for the country whereas tight grip on the 1.4 billion people should remain no change, surely, which privileged class wouldn't want?
It's no secret though that Wen's wife is a successful jewelry business woman making abundant wealth.
That's why the world need not worry about China's "expansion" simply because she has far too many domestic issues of her own ie elites struggling for power, corruptions, entire wealth being controlled by less than 10% of the people while 90% are still poor or in poverty, the CCP elite few live the life similar to Warren Buffet while majority not too far off from the life of Qing Dynasty, youngsters becoming more knowledgeable of the outside world and start demanding for more freedom and changes as evidenced by the millions of Chinese netizens, minorities getting more and more upset with the government. So we see the CCP propaganda staff are extremely busy writing covering-ups for the CCP, even Little Owl's Coming is required to sit in for Abe, the whole world is looking at how much longer can such a regime last.
Communist Comrade DogLover, All things bound to have pros and cons, ruling systems alike have both good and flaws. Given all circumstances equal, supervisions and involvement of the people on government policies by way of vote is by far the most fair and effective. The reasons why China can NEVER get rid of its many problems ie serious and escalating corruptions, pollutions, poisonous food, dishonesty, faking, cheats, so on and so forth, is MAINLY due to no scrutiny, opposition nor even complaint is allowed from the people because people have NO right to vote. Combating corruptions can only be effective either from the very top ie from the President and Premier OR from the people as in Lybia.
From the top means the very top guys must first give up their special privileges and habbits of taking bribes themselves before expecting their subordinates to follow suit, do you think this naive wish is possible in China, LOL??
The reason why Hong Kong and Singapore could wipe off corruptions completely overnight is simply the decision came from the very top, in HK's case, it's from London by sending Governor Maclehoise in 1970s to set up ICAC (Independent Anti Corruptions Commissions) directly reporting to the Governor and now to HK's CEO. In Singapore, it came from Lee Kwen Yew. So you better go home and ask your VERY top leaders whether they would give up their enormous "automatic offerings" first.
How would you expect China's serious corruptions can be curbed if the VERY top tier leaders continue to enjoy their advantages of taking bribes and special privileges every day but to tell their subordinates stop such advantages, only idiots believe the subordinates will obey.
BTW, ICAC was set up in 1970s in HK sweeping off the then corruptions almost immediately and NOT in 1980 as you always claimed.
Another alternative to wipe off corruptions will be like Lybia, by people's power. The whole world knows China is struggling hard to suppress all related news from its people in order to keep them ignorant as before but the advanced modern computer technology is becoming more and more on the side of the people, the world is watching....
I do not know whether you're naive or simply do not want to face the reality that Mainland's poor people and minorities whom do not have CCP ties nor privileges, comprising of 90% of the population despised and hate the ruling party, they have been promised the moon by CCP in 1949, after 60 years of rule, many still living in Qing Dynasty conditions, the poor the poorer, the only guys that benefit are CCP people, their associates and shoe-polishers which is less than 10% of the entire population.
Please read your subordinate, Owl's Coming Lo's question on why food prices in America is CHEAPER than Mainland to see how ridiculous a life Mainlanders are living.
