why does america celebrate Judaism,by lighting the menorah at the white house when 76% is christian?
One of the more prominent activities of the Washington Office is the annual lighting ceremony of the National Chanukah Menorah, on the Ellipse, just across from the White House.
This lighting of the world's largest menorah is viewed by millions across the nation and around the world via media, many of them hundreds of miles from any Jewish community, which makes it very difficult for them to otherwise celebrate and enjoy Chanukah properly.
appreciating diversity.so where are other religions not appreciated
just to add judaism is not christianity the clue is in the names.

If your stat is right, the country is 24% not Christian. And a main point of it's founding was that every religion had equal rights.
Clinton did the first Ramadan dinner in 1996, which Bush continued.
Bush added a Hanukah celebration after 9/11 along with a Hindu one.
Question has been why is a Christmas tree lit when it's not the countries official religion? I have no problem with it -- but no reason to begrudge others a moment too. Colorful celemonies are good diplomatic opporunties that all heads of state find helpful.

For the same reason that the US White house also:
Has a Christmas Tree
Celebrates the Hindu festival of Diwali (since Bush in 2003)
Hosts a Ramadan dinner
Because our Nation accepts all people, regardless of religion and wants them to feel at home.

My church does not practice against it, and easily, looks to inspire it. besides the undeniable fact that, there are some denominations regionally that refuse to rejoice Independence Day for the justifications you're already stated. they provide thought to themselves to no longer be an element of this worldwide, and refuse to hold public place of work, or rejoice nationalistic holidays. now and returned, those communities will additionally abstain from balloting in elections, using fact such elections are in basic terms correct to guy-made "kingdoms", and not the Heavenly kingdom.

It's about recognizing human diversity. Sadly, far too many people consider themselves Christians, or Muslims, or Jews first and human beings second. America is committed to the principle that all human beings are equal.

Presidents have always publicaly celebrated the Christian festivals
Recently, they started to also include some nods to non Christian ones.
The menorah lighting started a few administrations ago.
Bush Jr. and Obama have also done Muslim celebrations.
Maybe next administration will include something else.

As all winter holidays are "festivals of light", what else do you propose they do? (And since when is "Christmas" ONLY a Christian holiday? - it came from a pagan festival called "Yule".)
