    Source(s): Hi smooch :)
  • I am only vaguely familiar with synthpop so my list will be short. I know Kraftwork was Kraut Rock but that was the fore runner of synth pop so I will include a couple of theirs.

    1 - Kraftwork - great debut

    2 - Exceller 8

OK now for true synthpop bands

3 - Soft Cell - Non Stop Erotic Cabaret

    4 - Spandau Ballet - True

    5 - Erasure - Wild

    6 - La Roux - debut album

    7 - Depeche Mode - Violator

8 - Though not true Sunthpop - I have to include The Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams Are Made of This

    9 - Owl City - Maybe I'm Dreaming

    10 - Red Flag - The Crypt

Some of the bands I listed are actually Electronica but fit into the Synthpop mold as well.

Most of mine have already been covered by others, but...

Men Without Hats - Folk Songs of The 80's, Part III

DEVO - Duty Now for the Future ( underrated, imo )

    Ultravox - System of Romance

    Tubeway Army - Replicas

    John Foxx - Metamatic

    OMD - Architecture & Morality

Thomas Dolby - The Golden Age of Wireless

Bill Nelson's Red Noise - Sound On Sound ( thanks, "Phatz" !! I almost forgot this one :)

    Edit --

Not sure when "Synth-Pop" officially began (or how one classifies it), but --

The Cars - Panorama ( a dramatic shift from their Power-Pop, to a "colder" Synth sound )

Kraftwerk - Computer World & "Tour de France"

    Edit 2 --

Oh, yeah !! The first 2 Human Leagues* and maybe the first 2 Simple Minds(??)

    * "Thanks, Cap'n :)

Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe - best historical fiction I've ever read. The Swan Thieves - Elizabeth Kostova - another historical fiction (artsy, post-French Revolution) but it's an undertaking. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte - is also a good historical fiction. Dragon Prince series - Melanie Rawn - my favorite fantasy novels but they involve a lot of politics. Game of Throne books (A Song of Fire and Ice series) - amazing once you skip past the first chapter of the first book because it's so out of place it doesn't make any sense.
