Sedimentary rocks also tell us a lot about natural resources, environments at the time, sea level, and previous life forms via fossils.

an example, limestone is indicative of a shallow marine environment with abundant life.

We can learn how the rocks formed

    for example

scoria came from a volcano that had an iron rich magma and a lot of dissolved gas

limestone was formed in gentle shallow seas

and granite was formed by slowly cooling magma deep underground
