Sailing Questions: while taking down my jib I lost the halyard. How do I get it back down and into the track?

and back into the track? There is a track that guides the halyard/sail up to the mast.

Not sure what kind of boat or hardware you have but most jibs clip to the fore stay and do not run through a track the way many main sails do. There are a couple of ways to get the halyard down depending again on the size and type of sail boat you have.

One way is with the use of a boatswains chair that you would attach to the main halyard and allows you to be hoisted to the top of the mast to make your repairs.

Another way would be to drop your mast and make you repair on the ground.
