Possible for scientist reflect music from either the ionosphere or the stratosphere ?

I saw a program years ago on pbs where a group of scientist in north america or canada reflected symphony music off the upper atmosphere and it could be heard clear as day in a wooded area some distance away. was I imagining this or was it real?

Some radio transmissions reflect off of the ionosphere. This has been known almost since the dawn of radio. Many of the "world band" shortwave broadcasts, as well as ham radio make routine use of the ionosphere to communicate over long distances.
