Most PS1 emulators can use ISOs which are disc images. PS1 ROMs is a misnomer because ROMs are what you get from a chip on a cartridge or an arcade board.

I have used snes/genisis emulator for years, then a couple years back tried my hand at ps emulator. It was much more compicated but you can get the hang of it. Yes you need to either put the disc in your drive or use an ISO. There are tutorials online. Good luck
