Why doesn't David Gilmour play faster? Because he doesn't have to. Same goes for Kirk Hammett, although, I think he's been battling carpel tunnel.
Showing off your speed on every solo or song doesn't prove that you're a better guitar player than someone else. In fact, it shows that your playing style is very narrowminded and limited.
Some of the solo's off of the Kill Em All album were pretty fast, although, the first 4-8 bars were written by Mustaine.
The one thing you'll realize, is that more people know who Kirk Hammett is. More people like his music and prefer his style over someone like Yngwie Malmsteen who is more of a technical guitar player... i.e., someone who writes music for the purpose of showing off his chops. Kirk Hammett on the other hand, has been limited to other musicians.
And I doubt that after 2 years, you're skill is anywhere near that of Malmsteen or Hammett. You can probably play a few things, and are probably very sloppy as well. The difference between you and someone like Kirk or Yngwie, is that they wrote their material... you're simply just trying to recreate what they have created... and that's not that hard to do.
