Special Forces isn't as simple as some people make it out to be. The Special Forces mission is a very joint mission. Generally special operations are conducted by units comprised of several branches. The "Tier 1" units include DEVGRU, 24th STS, and Delta Force. Delta Force and DEVGRU have had much more publicity than most other special operations units. DEVGRU has been very successful with some very high profile operations including Osama Bin Laden's assassination. Delta Force is well known for its involvement in Mogadishu. You have to account for the fact that many of the missions conducted by these units are highly classified. There's a strong possibility that there's entire "elite" units that have a completely classified existence. For the most part, everything is grouped under a blanketed "Special Forces" term. For example, several Air Force members were among the special forces killed in the recent helicopter crash along with Navy Seals and Afghan Commandos.

PJs are some of the most self sacrificing individuals you can meet. Several of the highly decorated PJs gave their lives protecting and rescuing members of all branches. Their actions really shined throughout Vietnam but continue even into Afghanistan. They are only part of the Air Force's commitment to the special operations community. Their training is just as intense as any others with a two year training regiment and an average 90% dropout rate. I guess I have a bias towards these guys. They were there to help my friends after my unit was hit by an IED. They'll be there for anyone in need, and live by their motto "That Others May Live."

Seal Team 6 and the Green Berets are the best American soldiers you will ever hear about. You will never hear about a Delta Force Operation, and like the TV series "the Unit" there are groups that have no name.

The reason you don't hear about them is they do there job as odered and respect it. It is not about the glory. It is about the protection of the Country and the people. The reason you don't hear about them is because the choose not. I great soldier will never tell of the mission. Shame that people know of seal tem 6, because all soldiers are equel and have a purpose and the Green Berets know that.

Navy Seal Team 6 is the Best.

When we have hostages or anything they are the ones who are usually tasked to do the rescue.

Green Berets were used before and during Vietnam, but mainly went in as advisers before we were committed there.

You do not hear much about the Green Berets now.

They're the best at what they do. If you don't know what that is, then this is a stupid question.
