Why is Suzanne Vega's - Tom's Diner song original version is different from other versions?

I'm talking about the ending verse: "midnight picnic once upon a time before the rain begins and I finish off my coffee and it's time to catch the train" here's the link of the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLedFWpF9EA

She created the song as a vocal piece for piano only, which is the first one you pointed, and the other one, with accompaniment, was made later. As you know, there are artists who record their vocal or acapella renditions first and then, when the track is mastered, they add the other instruments.

It is said that she was worried about the quality of her voice in the a capella version, and the acceptance the original track might have, but her public and her label convinced otherwise, so they ended up putting both versions on her record, Solitude Standing.
