What accent mark can I use for the short A?
In the word 'Jack' - either the name or the mechanical device, I believe the 'a' has a short a sound. What accent mark can I put on the 'a' in Jack to represent this? I plan on writing it as 'Jak' with whatever accent over the a. Thanks for any help!

I would write it as Jæk or even Jäk. The 'ck' tells English readers that the /a/ is short. I guess in elementary school us used something like ă as opposed to ā
