What does the confederate flag mean?

The confederate flag was the symbol of the emancipated south which stood for the creation of a new 'country.' There were actually several confederate flags during the existence of the Confederacy. What is now colloquially known as 'the confederate flag' is a variation of an army flag and was used at the same time as a few other flags. It is also called the rebel flag, the southern cross or the dixie flag. It has 13 stars to represent the 13 states and uses the same colors as the US flag for the same reasons. (bloodshed, purity and heroism)
