    The Simple answer is: There is No Best Anti Virus for your computer--that people can tell with absolute certainty from afar( i.e. answering the question on Yahoo). What will determine which program is the Best will based on:

    Ease of Use

    Effectiveness of Protection

    Manner in which you use the computer. For example some use a computer like the proverbial little old lady who only drives to church on Sunday mornings. Such people go to relatively few websites, may not do a lot of research thus constantly clicking web links, rarely or never open email attachments, do not use P2P or file share. The point being, even a relatively "lightweight" AV will be extremely effective whereas a person who does exactly the opposite plus is heavily into games and video will need a heavily protected system with multiple layers of security programs running simultaneously.

    And since you are the only person who knows what your computer habits are. You will have to make the decision although there are several Excellent and FREE choices available to choose from and I will present you some of those options.

    All the following are free Anti Virus programs:

    Avira Anti Vir-------> http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus

    AVG-----------------> http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage

    Avast----------------> http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

    Rising Anti Virus---> http://majorgeeks.com/Rising_Antivirus_2011_Free_E...

    Do Not Confuse Anti Virus with Anti Spyware( Malware) Programs. You NEED BOTH. Those suggested below are Free Programs

    Malwarebytes------> http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_...

    SuperAntiSpyware-> http://www.superantispyware.com/

    Other: PC Tools formerly offered a completely free spyware scanner and removal tool. I am not sure if the Spyware edition is still free but I know from personal experience--PC Tools was great at finding and removing spyware. Below is a Free AV which should some Spyware protection too.

    PC Tools Spyware Doctor Free Edition(Google Packs)--> http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/

    Take sometime to read "OBJECTIVE" reviews about each of the the above to help decide which combination will work best for you. Avoid Biased, Subjective opionion, "XYZ is a piece of crap..." type review. If someone has had a negative experience then that review should reflect in an intelligent way so that you can decide if it was a problem with the program or the way the User used it and so forth.

    I am certain one of the above AV will be Best but that will be your call to make. Good Luck.

    AVG is a 6 out of 10, Kapersky is best but expensive, I would say either mcAffee or norton for you.

    But also download malewarebytes as a backup. its free @ cnet

    dont trust anthony anti virus is a must for all windows OS's

    EDIT: If you have the funds, get kapersky, if anything slips past them, it'll slip past any comemrcial security software.

    Norton and McAfee are garbage.

    If you're going for free, Microsoft Security Essentials is great. Just Google it.

    If you're willing to spend a few bucks, ESET NOD32 gets good reviews

    here's a good place to check out:

    If you have original windows then go for Microsoft Security Essential - as this is sufficient for windows.
