Any of the books by L. J. Smith, but especially the Night World series books. My favorite of all is probably Soulmate for the romantic ideas. The Secret Circle series, Forbidden Game, and Dark Visions are also favorites. Ironically the Vampire Diaries were my least favorite of hers-- they made me cry-- so I got rid of those and now it has become a series, which I found a bit strange and think was likely feuled by the Twilight series' success, but wonder if Stephanie Meyer mightn't have been influenced by Smith's work, since it came first. Circle of life, I guess.

It IS my novel, just two or three chapters short of being finished, then the second book will be a romance novel. And the novels on this website are completely free to read.***2011-Edit...
