Often because they are trying to convince other people that they're right, and everyone else is wrong, a.k.a proselytising. When it's just Jehovah's Witnesses at the door, it's merely irritating because it's patronising (oh yes, you might have THOUGHT about it, but you haven't come to the RIGHT conclusion, so you will have to come to church with us so we can brainwash you more effectively). When it's being done in a country where it's illegal, there are more serious consequences. Not that I agree with persecution of anyone for their religious beliefs, but I also believe people should respect the law of the country they live in.

  • You only have to look at history to see what Christendom has done via the crusades and the inquisitions. Christendoms religions have not lived up to Bible standards or by the teachings of Jesus Christ. Only one religion does all possible to live By Bible standards, Jehovah's Christian Witnesses. We all do our very best, and yes we do make mistakes and no we're not perfect. And we too are persecuted not only in Islamic countries but in others too such as Russia.

Well, it's not all Islamic countries, but it is a major problem in some e.g. Pakistan's oppressive blasphemy laws and they way they're used.

In short, it's just religious intolerance and bigotry, inspired by the common interpretation of the religion. It's not unique to the Islamic world, but it's very noticeable there at present.

  • The worst offenders of these countries tend to be a couple of hundred years behind the west. In that bonus time we in the West have managed to convince Christians they can no longer behave in that fashion. The only real difference is temporal.

Because Muslims were persecuted ridiculously badly by Christians for years.

Well, when 2 groups of people have done some pretty bad things to each other in the past, they tend to hate each other for a very long time even after all the crazy wars and stuff are over.

Because most countries where christianity is the major religion have good human rights laws. Most muslim countries do not believe in Majority Rules Minority Rights.

To the Muslims we are infidels and the Koran tells Muslims how to treat infidels. It tells them to treat us just exactly the way they treat us. Muslims started miss treating Christians as soon as there were Muslims, when Mohammad wrote the Koran in the 600's.

It makes a change doesn't it. I know Christians are used to doing the persecuting, but in time you'll get used to it.
