What to do on the big island of Hawaii?
My older brother is getting married and he lives in hawaii. I have not traveled there since i was young. I am going up there in August. I will be spending a Friday to Monday at Hapuna Beach, and then staying in Hilo at my grandmas from Monday to Wednesday. The wedding is gonna take up all of Saturday, and i Know I am going to a Luau one of the days, but other than that any other recommendations of things to do while in both areas.

Hapuna Beach, at the resort? Just chill and take advantage of the resort amenities. Hit the golf course if you like. Snorkel or dive.
--Feel like a road trip? Waimea, Kamuela, Lapakahi State Park, and the Kohala Coast. http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4GGHP_enUS441US4...
--and Pu`ukohola Heiau, Kawaihae. If you are there Aug 13-14, 2011, attend the 39th Annual Ho`oku`ikahi Establishment Day Hawaiian Cultural Festival at Pu`ukohola Heiau National Historic Site
This is a cultural festival by and for Native Hawaiians, not a show put on for tourists. The public is invited. Take sunscreen, hats and lots of water and maybe food if you are particular. The sun, like the sham battle, will be fierce!
Hilo at Tutu's:
--Volcanoes National Park, Halema`uma`u Crater, and wherever the lava is flowing that day.
--Shop for koa bowls in Hilo Town.
--Get some strawberry mochi at da Two Ladies Kitchen http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&qscrl=1&no...
--Shop da Farmer's Market and pick up all kinds of fruits you can't get where you live, and also some unusual types of anthurium. Tutu can enjoy 'em when you leave.
-UH-Hilo bookstore, get Vulcans logo wear
and hopefully they carry the Kulanui line of products, get some papaya chutney and dressing, and lip balm made by UH http://www.uhrainbowtique.com/products.asp?catid=6...
"The Kulanui (University) line of products are developed by former and current students and staff of the University of Hawai'i and Community Colleges with the focus on developing local under used resources.
Part of the proceeds return to the school that developed the product. Help spread the aloha around the world!"Source(s): I live in Hawaii and have family in Hilo and Kona

Kilauea is located on the southeastern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world!
Take a whale-watching catamaran cruise
Each winter, the humpback whales leave their rich Alaskan feeding grounds to frolic, mate, birth and nurse in the warm and shallow waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands.
= Relax on Hawaii's world famous beaches
