On France road signs why is Nancy and Metz always indicated with a dash? "Metz-Nancy"?
I've never seen it regarding any other places.

A "Metz-Nancy" sign post is not indicating the direction of each of the two towns but that of the airport which they share.
If you went to south Aquitaine the airport there is signed as Biarritz-Anglet- Bayonne

Wise Owl is right.
On gangways that stride the road both names appear since the towns are in the same direction, but they are underneath one another and not hyphenated with a dash.
Metz-Nancy refers to the airport.Source(s): My family comes from Lorraine too.

Metz my city of birth♥♥♥ Because both cities are in the same direction, it often happens to direct drivers to further direction.
Many signs are indicated this way to help drivers. Look at pic on the right.
