In 2009, the CDC estimated there were 8,392 new diagnoses of HIV among 13-24 year olds in the 40 states and five territories that report new HIV diagnoses.

Over the whole country (50 states and a dozen or so territories), there were probably about 11,000 new HIV diagnoses among this age group.
The number of people who actually got infected while in this age group will be higher, because some people don't get diagnosed with HIV until some years after the initial infection.
