Help in buying external hard drive!?

I want to buy external hard drive (USB connectivity) but I don't know whether it require a particular technical specification to match up with your motherboard. I have AsRock 775i65G motherboard with window Xp Sp2.Is this drive need to be supportive with motherboard or I can connect any external drive to my pc with usb. please answer.

Also suggest good & chip external hard drive which I can purchase online.

    Just ask for any drives that use a USB interface and you won't have any problem.

    im pretty sure that it doesnt matter what motherboard you have aslong as you have a usb port it will work

    there are some cheap external hdds some that require power or some that just plug and play

    western digital are a good brand at affordable prices

    the power supplied by one usb2 port is marginal. be prepared to use/lose two ports to enable an external hard drive. your board has six external, so this shouldn't be a problem:

    If you want a good external hard drive, don't buy a western digital hard drive. Western digital doesn't make good hard drives and they can break easily if they aren't used correctly.
