Is Marist College a good school?

I'd really like to major in fashion merchandising. Is this a good school for this? Thanks.

Also, what are the people there like? Is it gay friendly (i'm not gay, but very passionate about gay rights). Are the people nice, or snobby? Opinions?

Is it considered a good, respected school overall?

Thank you!

Hey, glad to see you're considering Marist! I may be a bit biased as I am currently a student here. I am not a fashion merch major, but I know that we have a fashion show every spring that showcases student designs & models that is typically sold out (Link to info on that: http://www.marist.edu/commarts/fashion/lookbook/20... I have friends who are in the fashion design program (one at Alice & Olivia the other is somewhere in NYC). There is also something called Marist in Manhatten for Fashion majors (link: http://www.marist.edu/commarts/fashion/mim/). We also have a campus in Florence, and links to Paris so you can study abroad and take courses in your major at either of those locations (there are many many more countries & options available, but I thought those were most relevant). There is also a fashion store on campus run by students in the department. I'd recommend exploring both this page and the links on the left of the page to get more info on the program: http://www.marist.edu/commarts/fashion/fashmerch.h...

I had my heart set on a different school, but financial aid fell through and Marist was my second choice. I am so happy that I ended up here. I have not encountered a snobby person, obviously they must exist somewhere on campus I'm sure, but I haven't seen them. I'll be 10 feet away and people will be holding the door open for me. I've yet to encounter a rude staff or faculty member, obviously you'll get a professor you don't like, it happens. Freshmen dorms have mentors and my dorm's mentor was this sweet older gentleman who would make pancakes for us and read Christmas stories and have hot chocolate, don't know if the other dorm mentors were as awesome. From what I can tell the LGSA is pretty active, I haven't seen anything that'd make me say the school is unfriendly towards gays, but I'm not a part of LGSA so I don't know for sure.

Marist is competitive and is continually improving upon their national rankings (http://www.marist.edu/publicaffairs/?id=623, http://www.marist.edu/publicaffairs/?id=596). The school is only going to continue increasing its reputation.

If possible visit the school, the campus is beautiful and I think you'll get a good feel for the student body and what we have to offer. Best of luck with your college search.
