1.

1 - x/2 - x/4 - x/8 = x - 1

1-7x/8=x-1

15x/8=2

x=16/15 2.

if 1/(6x)-(3+1/2)=-15,

1/(6x)-7/2=-15

1/(6x)=-23/2

x=-1/69 if(1/6)x-(3+1/2)=-15,

(1/6)x-7/2=-15

(1/6)x=-23/2

x=-69/23.

(6+2x)/3=6

2+2x/3=6

2x/3=4

x=6 4.

3x-x/2=10

5x/2=10

x=4 5.

the number of mangoes = 20-x

4.5(20-x)+2.5(x)=82

90-2x=82

2x=8

x=4 6.

let the cost of the article be $y.

marked price=$y*(1+40%)=$1.4y

selling price=marked price*(1-40%)=$1.4y*(1-40%)=$0.84y

On the whole,

Profit percent

=Profit/cost

=(selling price-cost)/cost

=($0.84y-$y)/$y

=(0.84-1)/1

=-0.16

=-16%
