well as a bassist myself i could assure you that Robert Trujillo is better for Metallica.

1. He plays with his fingers just like Cliff did.

and

2. Because he just fits perfectly into the band :D

Jason Newsted but no one could ever replace Cliff Burton

Out of those two I liked Jason better. He was just better and fit in with the rest of the band better, I think.

However, cliff was definitely their best. He was an amazing bass player.
