Keyboard typing numbers instead of the letters?

Whenever it a try to type a letter, it always types some random number instead of the letter. How on earth do I fix this problem?

This is a desktop. I don't know what the heck is going on with it. Could it be the keyboard itself?

Update 2:

It does have the ten-key number pad.

Update 3:

When I try to type any letter it will type a number. Thank you,

Does your keyboard have a 10-Key Number pad on the Right Side of the keyboard or is it ONLY the letters with numbers on a bar above the letter keys?

If it is the latter, your Number Lock was somehow accidently turned on.

I did this once on my NetBook and it took me a while to figure out how to turn it off.

Try unplugging the keyboard, restart the computer, (Hopefully it won't require letters to log you in) then plug the keyboard back in and let it reinstall.

That tends to clear up a majority of computer issues.

You may have turned on your laptop's number keys, perhaps?

Don't be embarrased, it happens to me very often.
