Does swimming build muscle mass?!?

I'm a girl, 15 years old, 5'8" and 144 pounds. i want to lose about 25-30 pounds. If I start swimming 4-5 days a week and working out, and eating 1200-1300 net calories will I lose the weight?!

P.s. I don't really want to gain any muscle

    Not with that diet. Building muscle mass requires food with lots of protein plus exercise.

    144 pounds is perfectly healthy for that height. If you lose the weight you want to lose, you will be unhealthily skinny and likely not very attractive.

    Having said that, you might have too few calories in THAT diet.

    Swimming makes you lose weight plus gain muscle that is if you do it for a team. In three months I lost 26lbs and gained muscle from that so let's say no muscle was gained then I would of lost 30-40lbs, but then again this was practice for 5 hours a day and eating a 3k cal. Diet.

    yeah but you will lose the weight faster than you will gain it in muscle. And it shouldn't build lots of muscle, just a little bit, shouldn't be unattractive or even really noticeable. They <will> notice the weight loss though ;)

    Note: at that height, 25-30 lbs would be too much to lose. I'd say 10-15 lbs max, but after that losing more weight would make you <less> attractive.

    Of course, it depends on body shape. If you've got it in the right places, then you don't want to lose any of it in the first place.

    Yes, that will definitely work.

    Swimming will make you lean and toned. But, losing that much weight might make you weak and sickly looking. 30 pounds of weight loss is far to much, keep in the 15 pound range and you will be looking skinny, but good.

    a pound of fat contains 3,500 calories. But I'm not really sure how much calories you burn off swimming. And muscle weighs more than fat too, so if you do start gaining weight, don't freak. Usually you can tell if your losing weight by your face. I don't know how but I guess I've noticed it.
