My Printer (Canon MP500 Pixma) has a 5100 error - but is it possible to still use the scanner?
I got it at a garage sale for cheap, so it's got some quirks, for sure. I really only needed to use the scanner part of it though, which doesn't need the ink cartridges, so is it possible to override this error or something, and just use it as a scanner?

To fix this Canon Printer Service error 5100, turn off and unplug the printer device from power supply, clean its timing strip, lubricate the sliders with some white grease in order to lubricate the sliders. For this, we must remove the right panel off the printer so that we can gain access to the mechanism.

Normally you will need all options functional on the printer in order to use the scanner
Here are the drivers (Software) for your printer. Select your operating system and download
When downloading, save to your desktop
Turn the printer on
When ready to install open download and click run
Disconnect the usb cable and wait until you are prompted to connect
