When was the last time a Republican President CUT annual federal spending?

I couldn't find any records that went back far enough...

Update:

"BUSH Jr" ...nice try, but spending increased every year under his watch - and possibly more over his term than Obama, depending on who you blame for the 2008 budget.

Update 2:

Reagan spent 5% more every year except one, where he only spent about 2% more....no reduction in spending there

There was actually a reduction in 1965 under Johnson. Obama is also expected to cut spending (we'll see)

Bush Jr. increased and expanded the role of federal government, and thus he increased federal spending. Reagan increased federal spending during the 1980's with the increased Cold War tensions between Soviet Union and USA, increased military spending, and increased development of the Strategic Defense Initiative. The last time a Republican President cut annual federal spending, believe it or not and as sad as this is, is Richard Nixon. Richard Nixon withdrew troops from the Vietnam War and engaged in diplomatic relations with Soviet Union with SALT 1.

Growing countries don't actually cut spending, but Reagan slowed it for 3 years.

many states on the east coast have been contracting for decades, but their spending has increased faster than Texas...see what happens?

There is no need to cut spending if we don't borrow to spend. It's just plain ole common sense stuffs, and I just cannot believe that the liberals just couldn't get it.
